Outdoor Adventure Skills (OAS)
For the beginner, intermediate or advanced swimmers, the Aquatics outdoor adventure skills program is designed for you. Come on out and learn something new or even perfect a skill. This program not only incorporates swimming skills, it is complemented by the sailing or paddling OAS for even more fun. You will experience snorkeling, swimming and learning about marine life as well as safety in and out of the water, developing lifelong skills. During the two weeks of aquatic adventure at TSR, you will have time to explore the camp while having fun in the sun.

Come sail away with us with Sailing Outdoor Adventure Skill. Beginners to advanced sailors can spend their stay learning the ropes, helping to teach other Scouts the ropes as well as taking part in our planned activities such as races and group sails. You will have an opportunity to choose a partner or sail solo on your adventures and with the many different levels of sailing offered, you will be sure to be challenged no matter what your skill level is. You can even set sail on one of our sailing expeditions including an exciting overnight of your own. During the weekend, campers who choose the paddling OAS 2-week experience will have supervised free time to work on your new skills or simply to have fun on your own. You can also choose to do one-week paddling and one-week sailing.

You never know where paddling will take you. Kayaking and canoeing are offered to beginners up to advanced levels so you are always sure to learn something new! During your stay, you will learn new paddling techniques adapted to certain conditions as well as weather conditions. During program hours, campers will learn different strokes, have boating activities, and participate in games. At the end of the week, you will pack and prepare for your own kayak or canoe over-night expedition.
Is exploring in your bones? Well then take a step into our Trail Outdoor Adventure Skill program. With activities ranging from nature/ecology walks, learning about the ‘’Leave No Trace’’ principles and mastering maps and compass work this skill will take exploring to a new level. Part of the adventure will include the Canadian Wildlife Federation WILD program, introducing fun and inspiring ways for you to understand and enjoy nature. Come on out and follow the trail to Camp Tamaracouta today!
Rise to the challenge and get a foothold on Outdoor Adventure Skills in the climbing world! Here is an opportunity to learn about and train various vertical skills such as equipment maintenance, knots, anchors, pulleys, packing for a climbing excursion and of course different climbing techniques. Conquer your fear or push past what you already know. The choice is yours. Belay on!
Are you prepared? Accidents happen everywhere, whether it is paddling on the lake or on a hiking trail. Outdoor first aid skills are a step beyond regular first aid. Emergency Aid Skills give you the advantage of knowing how to prevent injuries as well as how to treat wounds while in the wild. Learn to build your own first aid kit to tackle common injuries on your next adventures. Learn to identify edible, medicinal, and deadly plants out on a trail. After all, a scout should always, “Be Prepared!”

No matter what the question is, camping is the answer! Knowing that many groups who come to camp are comfortable with certain camping skills, we aim to demonstrate and try new hacks and tricks. If you are staying in canvas tents or haven’t had the chance to set up tents, we, guide you through all of our tricks in our handbooks and more. Discover how to choose a campsite and set it up safely as well as the different styles of camping. Come start campfires, cook in the outdoors, improve your teamwork skills and how to pack for an overnight adventure you will participate in. We provide many essential tips and hacks on basic to advanced camping skills.
Orienteering rocks! You will learn how to read different maps and symbols, how to work with compasses to get to where you are going with ease. Throw in a little friendly competition and you have a race. Orienteering is used in many of our outdoor adventures and is a lifelong skill and activity.
